Internet porn isn't the problem, I don't think.

here in the last four or five years or so, the watchtower has been viciously attacking internet porn, chat rooms, and social websites like they are the devil.

i think what is happening is this:.

the wbts can't come out and demonize the internet as a whole because it is far too practical and most of the west needs the internet to function.

Internet porn was only the problem with the elders. With the rest, they were worried about too much exposure to other views. College is a danger because it both exposes students to the internet and to critical thinking.

I liked the video, it was soft spoken and not over done. It didn't raise alarm bells, but made some good points. I never realized that they had changed 2 Cor. 13:5, saying Jesus was "in union with you", rather than "in you." I looked it up in 4 other translations and all say Jesus is "in you". This is a scripture that the dubs use a lot too-"keep testing whether you are in the faith..."

Having a brand name for their god, Jehovah, makes sense too. Sets them apart. A generic god would never do. So, I spent 30 years in a multi-level marketing scheme. I guess you can market anything, god included.

Matthew 24:14 fulfilled

you've probably discussed this a lot already but i started to have serious doubts when they announced that matt 24:14 was fulfilled.

even though in 3 countries, i think, (like afghanistan..) it had not been preached in at all and billions of people elsewhere will never hear about jehovah.

again the answer is probably that jehovah will make the final judgment and he is all justice etc.

I agree with alwayshere. It applied to the generation that Jesus was part of.

Thanks for all your answers. I have been asked this question by an elder a few years back. There was only one elder, so I knew they didn't have their two witnesses. I also knew it was the question they used to try to claim that someone disassociated themselves.

Because of only having one elder there, I knew I had some wiggle room. I still wanted to be left alone, so I turned the question back on him. I acted shocked and asked if he asked because HE didn't believe it was true. He recoiled from the thought and that was the end of the conversation.

I am glad I had made the rule that I would only talk to one person at a time. I refused any visits by two elders. Now, I just refuse any visits. They still try to catch me working in yard and will use that as an excuse to stop by and talk. I will talk to them about everyday things, but that's it. My own thoughts on God and religion are my private thoughts and I choose who I wish to speak to about them and when.

How did you answer that question? Did you just lie outright or try to create some wiggle room?

If Christ only wanted those apostles to participate, then why years later did Paul write about how Christians were supposed to celebrate the memorial? They were all doing it then and Jesus said to keep doing this until he returned.

Don't tell me there are 2 classes of Christians, as it is obvious that more than 144,000 became Christians in the first century. It has nothing to do with being jealous. It has everything to do with men twisting things to get power though.

Why would you want to serve Jehovah?

for all of you you believe in the watchtower doctrine i have a few honest and important (in my opinion) question you should ask yourselves.. why serve a god like jehovah?

you may find that question to be out of your comfort zone but i think it's important to examine the wt vision of the god you accept as real.

what does jehovah expects from you?

I never really wanted to "serve Jehovah". I wanted to have a relationship with the creator of all things.

The lack of a good reason to allow all the suffering of innocent people is what really drove me away. I haven't given up on getting an answer to that question some day, but it sure isn't because god and satan are having a pissing contest.

i was in my pajamas so i didn't invite her in.

I don't think we will know the answers to your questions until we die. I do see a creator in nature, but why he is so silent now I cannot say. I have often wondered about the great divide, that is the inability of those who have passed on to communicate with the living also.

I don't think the jws are denying Christ in a satanic ritual. They are just following instructions from headquarters. Why the watchtower decided to make the rules this way is debatable. I would like to look up the book referenced here. Thanks.

I came out of a different religion to become a jw and always found the memorial a very hollow experience. I was used to taking communion and felt the denial of it to be very personal. It seems to have an effect on the mind to aid in becoming submissive to someone else for salvation other than Jesus. I actually believe that is the purpose of the denial of participation.

i got the jw "bug" as a teenager.

witnesses called at our door when i was nearly 11. my parents are deaf and i was the oldest hearing child, the default interpreter for them in that era before relay services and professional interpreters.

they had no interest in jws, but it started to spark an interest in me.

Thanks for the encouragement. I went to college in my 30's as a dub and got an Associate degree. I can make a good living with the current schooling I have, but I have always wanted to go back to college. Maybe I will take that next step. It is really hard to get started again though!

I gave up a 4 yr. scholership that completely paid for my education and some of my living expenses after high school because of the discouragement from the jws.
